Students from Lewiston Regional Technical Center help Lewiston Veteran

January 6th, 2010

On Tuesday, January 5th students from Lewiston Regional Technical Center (LRTC)( http://lewiston.mainecte.org) joined Ann Pinette and local media members to discuss the new ramp and porch that the  students designed and constructd for Ms. Pinette.

Pinette a disabled Veteran,  looked to contractors and the Veterans Administration for assistance to have a ramp constructed at her home.  When construction estimates came back too high for coverage by the V.A., Lewiston Regional Technical Center stepped in.

Since September students have been designing and working on the project, even meeting with code enforcement to make sure the project met all legal requirements.    While being interviewed by the media, Jessica Denis a junior in the Trades Cluster at LRTC said the whole experience was wonderful, ” I love woodworking, so this is my dream, to actually make this.  I have always wanted to work on a big project.”

Ann Pinette says she could not have been more impressed by the students.  “These guys were my angels.  They came right over, no questions asked and started building.   They were very kind and professional.”

Contractor estimates came in around $12,000, LRTC students finished the project for $2500 that paid for materials.
